چکیده

Dear Editor, Effort thrombosis refers to axillarythrombosis associated with strenuous and repetitive activity of the upper extremities. Spontaneous thrombosis of upper extremity veins, subsequently termed the Paget-Schroetter syndrome, is relatively rare. Axillary vein thrombosis is associated wit various aetiological factors. Early recognition and aggressive treatment of this disorder has been recommended to avoid the long associated with chronic venous obstructio thrombosis usually follows sporting activities, such as wrestling, playing ball, gymnastics and swimming, which involve vigorous and sustained upper extremity movements. As a common leisure activity of Turkish women, hand knitting was not previously reported as a cause of upper extremity thrombosis. We report wha to our knowledge is the first case of effort thrombosis of an upper extremity caused by hand knitting.

Paget-Schroetter syndrome, or 'effort' thrombosis of the axillary-subclavian vein, is an uncommon deep vein thrombosis usually caused by excessive upper limb activity. Paget-Schroetter syndrome is a form of upper limb deep venous thrombosis usually seen in younger patients in association with repetitive activities of the affected limb. Paget-Schroetter syndrome (PSS) is thrombosis of the deep veins draining the upper extremity due to anatomic abnormalities of the thoracic outlet that cause subclavian compression and subsequent thrombosis, leading to thrombus formation in the subclavian vein. Vigorous arm activity in sports is a known risk factor. Here, we report a case of Paget-Schroetter syndrome in a 31-year-old male non-pr...
